AFC West End 2-0 Waddington United Res.

Waddington Grounded

The game that never was, with Waddington United’s withdrawal from the league meaning this game would later be scratched from the records. Although always in control West End struggled to break down their opponents until late in the game. With fifteen minutes to go a tactical switch to 4-3-3 proved to much for their opponents and Dave Capps opened the scoring with a brilliantly struck half-volley across the goalkeeper that would subsequently be described as ‘a goal of the season contender’ by the Lincolnshire Echo. Dan Hill added a second goal to wrap up the win, whilst the only time new keeper Ben Sheehan was troubled was from his own man as Bruce McDonald’s back header was turned brilliantly onto the bar.

Line-up (4-4-2): Ben Sheehan; Bruce McDonald (Dale Annous), Adrian Gray, Glen Wilson, Stephen Pearce (Jez Ashberry);  Dave Capps, Joe Harper, Gav Sumner, Dan Hill; Jamie Lawrence, Jamie Kitching (Jonny Dyas)
Man of the match: Dave Capps / Stephen Pearce / Bruce McDonald
Dick of the day: Joe Harper

AFC West End 2-2 Waddington United Res.

West End and Waddington Level Again

West End extended their unbeaten start to 2007 with a second 2-2 draw of the season with Waddington United Reserves. With little to separate the two sides both on the field and in the league table a draw was probably a fair result with Sam McDonnell and Rich Dungworth finding the net for West End.

Starting Line-up (4-4-2): Alec Waby; Stephen Pearce, Shaun Hepple, Jonny Dyas, Jez Ashberry; Dave Capps, Glen Wilson, Gav Sumner, Phil Lodge; Sam McDonnell, Rich Dungworth
Substitutes: Dan Cain, Lee Matsell

Waddington United Res. 2-2 AFC West End

Waddo Way to Draw

A patched up AFC West End managed to secure an unlikely draw at Waddington United Reserves. Shaun Hepple returned to the side, but clearly still injured his sole contribution was a booking before being taken off at half-time. The home side managed to take the initiative and aided by the presence of their own Jan Koller up front led the match 2-1. West End suffered further trouble when John Moore “heard three noises” as he went down injured and was carried off the field leaving just ten men to form a fight-back. However they did just that as Sam McDonnell grabbed his second goal of the game to level the scores, and it could have been even better as Andy Kirk struck the post from distance.

Starting Line-up (4-4-2): Andy Taylor; Jez Ashberry, Shaun Hepple, Jonny Dyas, Stephen Pearce; John Moore, Andy Kirk, Glen Wilson, Phil Lodge; Sam McDonnell, Rich Dungworth
Substitute: Joe Harper
