Travellers Put to Rest Again

Against their most paranoid opponents to date West End recorded the second highest victory of the season to consolidate top spot. Travellers Rest were sensing conspiracy at every turn arguing every decision made by referee Ash Oates and were much the architects of their own downfall as West End produced an impressive team performance. A trio of unlikely first half scorers put The Beers in control, James Dewhurst grabbed his second of the season but not before two players had claimed their first ever West End goals; Sam Boothman finishing a great solo run with a fine finish, and Stephen ‘Alf’ Pearce cutting inside to finish with his left foot. Opening Day Delight

The season starts in typical West End fashion on the morning after a frantic search for players. Founder member Benny Gane headed north to take the gloves, whilst Adam Anderson and Steve Nurse made impressive debuts. It was Nurse who opened the scoring for West End, with an own goal helping to double West End’s first half tally, but not before the hosts had equalised. Before the break Sam McDonnell was fouled, suffering what would later turn out to be ankle ligament damage, but with no West End substitutes he remained on the field for the second half. West End Hit a Dozen Against Sorry Travellers

In horrible conditions on the Cowpaddle West End faced Travellers Rest second string and never looked like losing from the opening moments of the match. Rich Dungworth was first to get on the score sheet with Sam McDonnell adding a second soon after, testing the keeper with knee-high backpass that he made a mess of. More first half goals followed from Marcus Tester and Matty Evans who fired in his his first goal of the season and celebrated in suitable fashion. West End Offer Travellers no Rest

AFC West End strolled to their biggest ever win against an unlucky Travellers Rest Reserves side. The home side almost didn’t take to the field however, having been made to rummage around the undergrowth by the match official for makeshift net-pegs before the match could begin. Once it did West End took control of the game with first half goals from Chris Dewey and Rich Dungworth, then the opposition’s bad luck struck, they lost four players to injury within the space of twenty minutes leaving the game dangerously close to being forfeited.  Read the rest of this entry
