Potterhanworth 1-4 AFC West End

West End Potter Onwards

West End are under new management but still winning as they notched a third straight win, and a first victory under caretaker boss Sam McDonnell. The Beers took the lead inside the first couple of minutes as Jamie Lawrence fed Sam McDonnell on the edge of the box and he held off his man before slotting home the opening goal. However, the home side equalised within quarter of an hour as the Potter’s right winger lacthed onto a ball chipped toward the far to finish well. Undaunted West End soon regained the lead as Sam McDonnell grabbed his second goal of the game; turning the ball home from close range from Lawrence’s pull back. Read the rest of this entry

Poor Start Continues with Potters Defeat

AFC West End’s poor start to the season continued with a first ever defeat to Potterhanworth in the twilight. The Potters struck a late and controversial winner in the near darkness four minutes from time to sink ‘the beers’ to their second successive defeat and their worst ever start to a season. Things had begun well for West End who had already come close on a couple of ocassions before Jamie Lawrence broke down the left and finished from a tight angle to give West End the lead. At the other end stand-in keeper Glen Wilson was tested just twice, holding a low shot and turning a free-kick away. Unfortunately moments from the break Potterhanworth equalised as they broke onto a long ball over the top, Adie Gray got back to make a great tackle on the Potters forward but he righted himself and put the ball between Wilson’s legs to make it 1-1 at the break. AFC West End 4-0 Potterhanworth

Potterhanworth Dominated by Unchallenged West End

After the disappointment of last week’s cup exit West End returned to league action at home to bottom of the league Potterhanworth. West End welcomed back Joe Harper to the midfield but Matty (vote) Evans was missing due to illness. The conditions played a big part in the first half; Potterhanworth pushed West End back as the home side struggled early on against the wind and the visitors nearly took a shock lead only to be denied by a goal-line clearance just in the nick of time. Instead it was West End who opened the scoring against the run of play when Chris Dewey and Marcus Tester’s combined efforts forced the ball over the line, Tester getting the last touch to score his fifth goal of the season.
