Monks Road WMC 4-0 AFC West End
Monks Silence West End
Another of those games that left West End’s squad scratching it’s collective head. Despite dominating possession for most of the first half and large spells of the second West End somehow went down to one of their heaviest defeats of the season, against one of their worst opponents. Still at least one West End player made it onto the score-sheet; Glen Wilson laying claim to two of Monks Road’s four goals.
Line-up (4-4-2): Ben Sheehan; Stephen Pearce, Glen Wilson, Adrian Gray, Jez Ashberry (Jay Dann); Dave Capps, Joe Harper (Sam Boothman), Gav Sumner, Dan Hill; Sam McDonnell, Jamie Kitching (Ritchie Bates)
Man of the match: Joe Harper
Dick of the day: Glen Wilson (two own goals speaks for itself)

West End Rail-Roaded by Monks
Down to the bear eleven including a guest appearance from Simon Mowbray West End were always going to struggle against a strong and typically physical Monks Road side, and were behind from the outset as Monks Road broke in the first minute to fire past stand-in keeper Glen Wilson. West End fought back though and Jay Lawrence levelled late in the first half. However, in the second half West End were undone by some unnecessary physical approach from the Monks Road midfield and limited protection from the match referee as the visitors edged ahead again and then raced into a 4-1 lead. Dewy pulled a goal back for West End to set up a potentially nervous last few minutes, but the only further goal came from Monks Road who restored their three goal advantage.
Line-up (4-4-2): Glen Wilson; Stephen Pearce, Jay Dann, Gav Sumner, Jez Ashberry; Dave Capps, Sam Boothman, Ritchie Bates, James Dewhurst; Jamie Lawrence, Simon Mowbray
Man of the match: Gav Sumner (solid in unfamiliar defensive position) / Glen Wilson (made some good saves)
Dick of the day: Monks Road’s number 16 (the kit will be left outside Monks Road WMC)

Monks Silenced
West End’s fifth meeting with Monks Road in two seasons proved another close affair, but despite Monks Road’s lowly league position AFC were still unable to record a first competitive win over their opponents. Instead honours were shared with a Rich Dungworth goal helping West End to a 1-1 draw.
Starting Line-up (4-4-2): Alec Waby; Stephen Pearce, Shaun Hepple, Jonny Dyas, Jez Ashberry; Dave Capps, Gav Sumner, Glen Wilson, Phil Lodge; Sam McDonnell, Rich Dungworth

West Common Derby Defeat
West End suffered their second defeat of the season in a close West Common derby game. Reverted to right midfield for the day it was Andy Kirk who found the net for West End in a 2-1 defeat, but AFC could have led themselves as Joe Harper struck the post at 1-1. Despite a spirited effort and the introduction of an all Norfolk substitutes bench West End couldn’t quite find the equaliser.
Starting Line-up (4-4-2): Andy Taylor; Stephen Pearce, Mayur Patel, Jonny Dyas, Jez Ashberry; Andy Kirk, Joe Harper, Glen Wilson, Phil Lodge; Sam McDonnell, Rich Dungworth
Substitutes: Lee Matsell, Gary Matsell, Chris Dorling
AFC West End 3-2 Monks Road WMC
West End’s second outing of pre-season came against another side promoted from division six to five for the coming season. An unfamiliar West End side struggled early on and despite a Rich Dungworth goal trailed 2-1 in the second half. However, late goals from Dungworth and Sam McDonnell helped bring a turnaround for an unexpected 3-2 win.
Starting Line-up (4-4-2): Alec Waby; Stephen Pearce, Paul Walker, Gav Sumner, Jez Ashberry; Phil Lodge, Glen Wilson, Andy Kirk, John Moore; Sam McDonnell, Rich Dungworth

No End of Season Joy for West End
West End eventually drew the curtains on a hectic end of season with a home game against Monks Road WMC, West End’s eighth match in eighteen days. It proved a disappointingly drab affair with neither side creating much in the way of clear-cut chances. In the final minutes West End were prevented from ending their season with a loss by a combination of goal-line heroics from Adam Bierton and Mark Anderson, plus some generous refereeing.
Line-up (4-4-2): Adam Bierton; Mark Anderson, Glen Wilson, Mike Smith, Chris Denman; Matty Evans, Joe Harper, Andy Kirk, Damian Greenfield (Dave Capps); Sam McDonnell, Rich Dungworth
Man of the Match: Matty Evans
Dick of the Day: Andy Kirk; well it was the last game so cue some handy vote rigging

West End Fail to Find Solace Against Monks
Technically an away trip but still played on the West Common; AFC took on the daunting prospect of Monks Road Working Men’s Club. Monks Road were strong throughout their side and took control of the game early on with a powerful finish from the edge of the box. Monks Road added two more goals to make the game comfortable whilst West End rarely threatened and deserved nothing more than what they got from the game. The one plus point was goalkeeper Adam Bierton’s performance keeping the margin down.
Line-up (4-4-2): Adam Bierton; Matty Evans, Shaun Hepple, Mike Smith, Chris Denman (Liam Collinwood); Matt Sibson (Ben Gane), Joe Harper, Andy Kirk (James Dewhurst), Chris Dewey; Mike Northern, Sam McDonnell
Man of the Match: Adam Bierton; Kept the score-line respectable with some great saves.
Dick of the Day: Matty Evans; Shorts on back to front, schoolboy error.
