Hykeham Plough on to the Next Round

A depleted West End side crashed out of their third competition of the season at the hands of Division Three side Hykeham Plough although they did almost take the lead as Sam McDonnell headed wide from a long throw. At the other end stand-in keeper Glen Wilson was just about keeping Plough at bay as he first turned a header from a corner over the bar, and then managed to get down well to block as a forward managed to get through one-on-one. However, he was eventually beaten just before the break as a Hykeham forward managed to turn six yards out and shoot low into the bottom corner. Read the rest of this entry

AFC West End 2-3 Hykeham Plough

West End take on Division Four side Hykeham Plough at Bishop Grosseteste College in their first pre-season friendly, and achieve a creditable result with Gav Sumner finally scoring on a pitch other than the one in Hykeham, not once but twice.

Three and Easy for West End

West End strolled to a comfortable victory on the Common after dominating Hykeham Plough. West End were without skipper Chris Dewey so Glen Wilson took the captain’s armband and Marcus Tester took Dewey’s free role in midfield. After a close affair in the away fixture, Hykeham were an unknown quantity especially after inconsistent recent results. West End Haul in the Plough

AFC West End finally got back to winning ways after a dramatic win away at Hykeham Plough. Despite far from ideal preparation arriving late after visiting two other venues before eventually finding Hykeham’s ground West End began well on a small pitch and went ahead when captain Joe Harper got on the end of Chris Dewey’s corner, powering a header past the helpless keeper. West End remained comfortably in control until early in the second half when they imploded and conceded two soft goals in as many minutes. Read the rest of this entry
