Vickers Hat-Trick Helps AFC Slay Dragon
AFC West End made it three games unbeaten with a dominant victory over a poor George & Dragon. There was a worry before kick off as the Sobraon pitch was shrouded in fog which only cleared towards the end of the final warm up. West End were without Mike O’Keeffe so Dave Capps started on the wing in front of James Dewhurst at left back.
AFC had the best of the early play, Sam McDonnell missed with an instinctive effort from close range whilst Rich Dungworth also came close with a chipped effort over the onrushing keeper. George and Dragon were struggling to get a handle on the game and appeared poorly organised from front to back.
West End were keen to take advantage of their dominance but waited a long time before they opened the scoring. One of many cynical fouls from the George & Dragon was punished with a free kick, Dane Vincent delivered it into the box and Rich Dungworth met it first time to give AFC a deserved lead. The goal settled West End whilst George & Dragon turned on themselves and the referee. Half time came with AFC rightfully in front, and rarely troubled at the back.

By George; West End Hit Six
AFC West End made the short away trip up the hill to Sobraon to face George & Dragon with a couple of late additions having brought the side up to a bare XI. Things were to get worse before they got better as well with Martin Robinson aggravating a foot injury in the warm-up and having to don the gloves for the morning, Liam Tonks taking over at left back. Thankfully for the Beers this match proved to be one of the lesser tests they will face this season. Read the rest of this entry
