AFC West End 2-3 Branston Homeguard
AFC West End suffered last gasp heartache as their attempts to kick start their season lead to a narrow defeat at the hands of Branston Homeguard. West End fell behind in the first half after a period of early dominance, and with the wind out their sails they were unable to have any impact on the first period.
In the second half they came out with renewed vigor and equalised with a goal of exceptional quality. Jack McDonnell’s free kick from just outside the box found the top corner leaving the Homeguard goalkeeper clutching thin air. Jack was obviously delighted with his goal, not only for its quality but it was also his first strike of the season.
The teams then traded goals with Homeguard regaining the lead before Harry Rickels struck a sweet dipping shot which drew the teams level. The game calmed and looked to be heading towards a draw, but Homeguard proved their metal when in the final few minutes a looping header crept under Christian Sales’ bar leaving AFC absolutely dejected.
