Dunston Done For
AFC West End continue their winning pre-season form with an emphatic win at Red Lion Dunston in which the damage was done in the first half. After struggling o round-up eleven players last weekend West End typically had sixteen available for this trip to Dunston and took control from the start. New signing Dan Vines opened the scoring as his volley somehow crept in following a corner and the forward went on toa dd two further goals in the first half. Dave Capps grabbed the second whilst the fourth came from a great finish from Jack McDonnell, although Dunston did pull a goal back before half time.
In the second half the Dunston ‘keeper who had something of a nightmare first half suddenly became something of a Jan Tomaszewski tribute act with a string of improbable saves to keep West End at bay as the home side threatened a comeback thanks to the goal of the game, a brilliant thirty-five yard lob. Eventually The Beers got the break through as Jack McDonnell grabbed his second goal and James Dewhurst also scored, though Dunston hit the score sheet again late on for a final score of 7-3 to West End.
