AFC Golden Eagle 2-2 AFC West End

AFC West End struck late on to claim a point against table topping AFC Golden Eagle. James Smith returned to the side in place of Harry Rickels, whilst Dan Arden and James Dewhurst replaced Harry Martin and Stephen Pearce as full backs.

It was Jack McDonnell who opened the socring with a fortunate effort as a defenders clearance struck Jack and rebounded stright past the Eagle keeper. An opputunistic strke but a confidence boosting one for Jack McDonnell his second in as many games. Read the rest of this entry

AFC West End 2-3 Branston Homeguard

AFC West End suffered last gasp heartache as their attempts to kick start their season lead to a narrow defeat at the hands of Branston Homeguard. West End fell behind in the first half after a period of early dominance, and with the wind out their sails they were unable to have any impact on the first period.  Read the rest of this entry

Bassingham FC 0-1 AFC West End

AFC West End heaped misery on Division One strugglers Bassingham by dumping them out of the Ron Eaglen Challenge Cup. James Dewhurst took charge as stand in manager with John Purdy away on hockey duty.

Harry Rickels scored the only goal of the game in the first half as West End progressed to round two. The game sadly was marred by a referring performance both teams agreed ruined the match as a spectacle. Nothing though could take the shine of a good cup victory and a welcome distraction from league woes. Man of the Match went to Rob Davies who played his last game before returning home to Nottingham. Joiners Arms 3-1 AFC West End

AFC West End took on leaders Joiners Arms with an under strength team due to numerous cancellations. West End took an early lead when Rich Dungworth making his last appearance for the club, strangely at centre half lofted a free kick into the opposition box. AFC West End 2-0 Red Lion Dunston

AFC West End recorded a welcome victory, their first in five weeks, since they beat the same opposition Red Lion Dunston in the cup. Dunston arguably gave a better account of themselves than the did in the cup but fell to the same scoreline as the previous fixture 2-0, both West End goals coming from Rich Dungworth. AFC West End 0-1 Birchwood Leisure

AFC paid for missing a number of decent first half opportunities as they were beaten 0-1 by Birchwood Leisure to end their participation in this seasons Jock Mitchell Memorial Trophy.

AFC Harpars 4-4 AFC West End

West End travelled to Horncastle for a difficult away dual with AFC Harpars. The game was another entertaining one and another in which the two teams couldnt be separated, another 4-4 draw.

West end’s goals came from runaway top scorer Ady Gray, the central defender scoring his sixth goal of the season. Rich Dungworth was also amongst the goals getting a double, the second of which was disputed by Harry Rickels who later did manage to score his first West End goal, AFC’s fourth. All in all a good away point.

AFC West End 0-2 Evolution FC

AFC West End lost more ground on the league leaders with a very disappointing 0-2 loss to Evolution FC. The first half was all West End with the game being played entirely in the oppositions half. AFC though again paid for not turning their possession into goals when in the second half they were hit by two Evolution goals. A forgettable game for all concerned.

Hykeham Harrows 2-2 AFC West End

AFC returned to league action with an away trip to strugglers Hykeham Harrows. After initially dominating AFC were punished for their inability to take the lead, when the Harrows scored twice in quick succession.

With Rich Dungworth substituted due to injury and Sam and Jack McDonnell failing to test the keeper it was left to skipper Ady Gray to led from the back, scoring both goals in a late comeback. His first a well dispatched penalty and the second a header earning AFC a point in a game where they really should’ve picked up all three. FT 2-2

AFC West End 2-0 Red Lion Dunston

AFC began their assault on the Jock Mitchell Memorial trophy with a home tie against fellow Division Five side Red Lion Dunston.

A much changed West End line up ran out 2-0 winners with both goals being scored by Man of the Match Dave Capps.
