Well, it finally happened, we broke the internet; so we have been forced to relocate the AFC West End website here. Let us know your thoughts.

The cold weather continues in Lincoln meaning AFC West End have now gone a month since their last competitive outing. This Sunday’s planned fixture with George & Dragon has now been postponed, following in the wake of the twice postponed cup tie with AFC Rustons. The Beers will try for a third time to face AFC Rustons in the Fred Quibbell Junior Cup next weekend, Sunday 17th January. The postponements have already added two weeks onto West End’s season with the George & Dragon game rearranged for Sunday 18th April and the match with Metheringham Reserves, originally scheduled for 17th January now moved to Sunday 25th April.

Varsity Blues
Another disappointing defeat for AFC West End who started well against Dynamo Varsity on the Cowpaddle, but ultimately lacked the cutting edge to get anything from the game. Whilst there is no doubt that the home side deserved victory on the balance of play the 6-0 scoreline certainly flattered them and West End were unlucky not to be on level terms at the halfway stage. Fivey From The Ivy
As is becoming something of habit West End were down to the bare bones once more, the squad bolstered at the last minute with the return of old boy Phil Lodge to take up the role of twelfth man. When West End hosted Ivy Tavern last season their ‘fans’ were suitably lagered up and they weren’t about to let a morning kick-off get in the way of their alcohol consumption. As West End took to the field they were greeted by Ivy’s support already tucking into a crate of Carlsberg. The league must have taken this into consideration when appointing the referee as before the teams had even left the changing rooms he had made it known to both sides that he would tolerate any swearing directed at him. A man as wise as he was brave. Continue Reading »

Cherry Prove More Willing
Disappointment for The Beers on a windswept and rain-soaked West Common as they sunk to their fourth successive defeat at the hands of an annoyingly young Cherry Willingham side. With a bare eleven, and a change in formation West End struggled to get to grips with the conditions or their opponents in the opening minutes as Cherry made the better start. Indeed West End could have gone behind inside the opening twenty minutes were it not for a couple of smart saves from Martin Robinson and a goal-line clearance from Adie Gray. Continue Reading »

Metheringham Not Second Best
AFC West End slipped to another disappointing defeat as Metheringham 2nds inflicted more punishment on home turf. Manager Stephen Pearce was again seriously troubled by player availability in the lead up to the game, with one of his two recognised fullbacks in goal and the other only able to play for a limited time. Gone for a Burton
Further disappointment for AFC West End, as the Beers rocked by unavailability and injury slipped to a second successive 3-2 defeat in Division Three. This week’s defeat was to be arguably more frustrating than last Sunday’s 3-2 loss to league leaders FVA Jerusalem as West End actually led Burtons 2-0 at the break. However, they failed to replicate their football in the second half and were undone by a second half comeback on a pitch where the club has never really enjoyed much luck in the their existence.
